Claude "Bus" Mathews

    Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Claude Lyle “Bus” Mathews, age 93, of Roosevelt, passed away on Saturday September 19, 2026 with his wife and family by his side.  
    Bus was born November 12, 1932, in Bluebell, Utah to Claude and Alice Winkler Mathews.  He graduated from Altamont High School.
    On July 26, 1952, he married Anna Lee Thacker his high school sweetheart.  There were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple.
    Bus held many jobs, but his long life dream was to be a farmer.  So in 1959 he bought a weedy, rocky, sagebrush, Russian olive place off of highway 40 and turned it into a beautiful productive hay farm.  He was a hard worker!
    Bus was a wonderful mentor, friend, advisor, husband, father, and grandfather.  He supported his children and grandchildren in all their lives and activities.
    He taught his kids to work, have fun and be honest and respectful.
    He would always whittle something and taught the boys and grandsons also.   He was always saying little phases and jokes, he was also a big tease and loved to dance.
    He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Lee Mathews, Roosevelt;  children, LeeAnna (Dan) Bryson, Magna; Kerry Dee Mathews, Roosevelt; Dan (Joetta) Mathews, Rocks Springs, Wyoming; Sue (Steve) Farnsworth, North Dakota; 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a brother, Phil (Jo) Mathews, Draper; and many nieces and nephews.
    He is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, four brothers, his grandsons, Ryan & Brandan Mathews, granddaughter Callie Jo Mathews.
    Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Altamont Stake Center.  Viewings will be held on Wednesday evening at the Hullinger Mortuary from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and Thursday at the church from 10:00 - 10:45 AM.
    Burial will be in the Altamont Cemetery.
