Listen to Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Robert McKinnon, age 71, passed away on June 14, 2014 at Uintah Basin Medical Center in Roosevelt.

He was born June 9, 1943 in Ogden, Utah to Ralph Harold Eugene McKinnon and Reta Cornia McKinnon. Chuck spent his early years in Randolph and Woodruff, Utah and later moved to Almy, Wyoming where he attended a two-room school house. He later went to junior high and high school in Evanston, Wyoming where he met Loraine Matthews. They were married on June 28, 1962 in the Salt Lake LDS temple.

Chuck made his home in Arcadia, where he and Loraine raised their six children along with hay, silage, and a wide variety of critters and livestock. Charles loved all baby animals, watching water run down furrows when he irrigated, his family, and the gospel. Chuck spent countless hours working on the ranch and in the meat plant with his family. He often joked that he better live a good life or he might have to spend eternity putting back together all of the animals he had processed over the years at Chucks Meat.

Besides ranching, farming, and butchering, Chuck worked for over twenty years as a ditch rider. He found joy in getting up at the crack of dawn to listen to the birds and enjoy the scenery as he rode around checking the water. Chuck was content with simple pleasures; family picnics under the willow tree, watching a new calf feed, and attending ball games were just a few of the things that enriched his life.

Charles is survived by his wife, Loraine; Arcadia; brothers, Parley (Jan) McKinnon, Cedar City; Scott (Ginger) McKinnon, Duchesne; daughters, Ilene (Roger) Hall, Farmington; Clarene (Brian) Mair, Heber City; Suzanne (James) Reeve, Danville, CA.; Julianne (Ryan) Harrison, Arcadia; Charlea (Ryan) Mortensen , Melissa, TX.; and son, Steven (Chasity) McKinnon, Roosevelt; twenty grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Della Blake.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bridgeland LDS Chapel. Viewings will be held on Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and Thursday, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.

 Burial in the Bridgeland Cemetery.
