Carma Jean “CJ” Lisonbee, age 89, of Duchesne, passed away July 30, 2026, in Vernal at the Beehive Home.
She was born on January 10, 1937, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Waldo and Loa Iorg Hansen, on a bitterly cold winter night when temperatures plunged to 40 degrees below zero. She married Doyle Merrell Lisonbee on June 4, 1955, in Altamont and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 10, 1964. He died December 10, 2007. She later married Hollis Gilbert “Gib” Hullinger, on May 27, 2017. He died May 6, 2019.
CJ, as she was known, loved people! Her life was spent serving and socializing: whether it was ironing, delivering bread and pies, or bringing over a pot of soup, she made sure you were well fed and well informed. She also enjoyed canning, cooking, and working in her flower garden. She really liked to camp, and she and Doyle were the campground hosts at Moon Lake for three summers.
CJ was an active member of The Church and served in various callings, one of her favorites being an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple. She was part of the “Mother’s Club,” the “Altamont Lariats Riding Club,” and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was the Grand Marshall of the Duchesne County Fair in 2012. She was a substitute teacher for many years, working at Thompsen Elementary School and Duchesne Elementary.
Her love of talking and her bright, happy personality will be very missed.
Carma Jean is survived by her three sons, John Doyle (Lisa) Lisonbee, Scipio; James Merrell (Lisa) Lisonbee, Roosevelt; Jerry Kaye (Sherry) Lisonbee, Duchesne; 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Keith (Beverly) Hansen, Roosevelt; Charlie (Cindy) Hansen, Arcadia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Doyle & Gib; her parents; and a daughter, Jeanie Marie Beckstead Potter.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Duchesne 1st and 3rd Ward Chapel, 130 S 300 E. There will be a viewing that morning at the church from 10-10:45 a.m.
