    Our sweet wife and mother Betty Lain Atwood Gustin, of Strawberry River returned to her heavenly home on August 5, 2026.  We are happy to know that her mind is now clear and she can remember all that she has forgotten.
    She was born August 7, 1938 at her grandmother’s house in Vernal, Utah.  She was a shy little girl with big brown eyes and a sweet smile.  She was taught the value of hard work and was one of the hardest workers you would ever know.  She taught this same trait to her children and grandchildren.
    In her 20’s she caught the eye of a young man while working at a canning factory in Ogden, Utah.  He thought she was the prettiest girl he’d ever seen.  A shy young lady with big brown eyes and a sweet smile.  After a short time dating, they were married on July 3, 1964 in Clearfield, Utah and later sealed on December 2, 1972 in the Manti Temple.  
    She was a good mom and spent lots of time with her children and later her grandchildren teaching them life lessons and just plain having fun.  She had a special love of children and they were drawn to her.  One of her lifetime highlights was to work as a foster grandparent at Duchesne Elementary where she affectionately became known as “Grandma Betty.”  She also had a special soft spot for animals, but especially little dogs.  Her vegetable and flower gardens were well kept and it seemed that she could grow just about anything.  She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and painting.
    She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She and her husband Merv served in the Utah Provo Mission from 2014-2016.  They were also ordinance workers in the Vernal Temple. She had a tender testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and felt spiritual things deeply. Her voice would often quaver with emotion while expressing gratitude for all she had.
    Betty is survived by her husband of 62 years, Mervin Gustin, of Strawberry River; children Dixie (Ron) Brandt, Vernal; Molly (Jason) Tolbert, Vernal; Lonnie (Yvonne) Gustin, Craig, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Laurie Gustin 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; siblings Jeanie Brown, Twin Falls, Idaho; Ken Atwood, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
    She was preceded in death by her son, Paul Gustin; grandson Logan Tolbert; her parents Lawrence and Gladys Atwood; siblings, Lamar Atwood, Floyd Atwood, Jerald Atwood, Deon Curtis, Sharon Chatterton, and Dallas Atwood.
    Her children wish to thank their father for the loving and tender care that he rendered to their mother during the later stages of her life.
    Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Duchesne 1st and 3rd Ward Chapel. There will be a visitation that morning at the church from 10-10:45 a.m.
    Burial will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery.
