Beth Ellen Norman

March 4, 1962 — July 6, 2023

This obituary has been placed on our website as a courtesy to the family.  The Hullinger Mortuary is not handling any part of the services.

Beth; our wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, bonus mom, and friend, left with pieces of our hearts to soar with her mother, beloved sister and many others she loved dearly on July 6, 2023.

Beth Ellen Norman was born March 4, 1962 in Ashland, Ohio to William and Yvonne Yoder. She grew up in Ohio with a strong “Yoder” attitude and the need to give to and help others. Beth graduated from New London High School and EHOVE (where her love of caring for others began) in 1980. She then ventured to Florida and fell in love with the ocean. Eventually, she ventured to Utah to be near family and met and fell in love with Danny Wayne Norman. They married on June 20, 1984 and began their adventures together, with their life taking them to Oregon and Alaska.

Beth’s calling as a nurse was engrained early on. Beginning her nursing career in Roosevelt, Utah, continuing to Portland, Oregon, onto Sitka, Alaska and returning to Portland, Oregon. She obtained her Nursing Degree from Weber State University and Bachelor and Master Degrees from Oregon Health & Science University. In the eight years in Sitka, Alaska, Beth was more than a nurse. With the limited staff and facilities, she filled many roles beyond the nursing spectrum. Her calling took her back to Legacy Health in Oregon and for over twenty years, she continued her journey.

Beth was not just a nurse, she was “The Nurse”. Beth was a wealth of information and a great nurse leader. She was a mentor and role model for so many. She was a mover and a shaker and if it didn’t make sense, she challenged the status quo with her knowledge and data. Beth utilized her skills to give the best care for and advocate for patients. Always recognizing and acknowledging colleagues for their knowledge, skill and nurturing techniques.

Beth has been the recipient of many accreditations and awards for her achievements and dedication, with receiving news recently that she is the recipient of the most prestigious award to be granted in her career for the nurse, leader, mentor, futurist, and woman she is.

Those who know Beth, know she spoke her mind, was very blunt but yet, very loving. She loved her family beyond measure. She will be missed by many, however, her legacy will live on in all of us.

Beth is survived by her husband Dan. Brothers and sisters; Bernie and Cindy Yoder, Debby and Alex Robert, Annette Pullin, Robert Pullin, Amber Yoder, Nikki Norman, Chris Norman, Dale and Lauri Norman, Don Norman, Dave Norman, Doug and Samantha Norman. Her Aunt Ernestine Cole, Uncles Avery Yoder and Mel Yoder, all of her beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, many cousins, and extended family. Her father William and Janie Yoder and Step-father Dan Dearth. Many wonderful friends. Her fur-baby K-Boo (Bubby). All of her colleagues with Legacy Health, Sitka Healthcare, and the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses.

Beth was preceded in death by her mother Yvonne Yoder Dearth. Sister Jenneida Kriews. Bonus mother Peggy Norman. Father-in-law Dell Norman. Grandparents Okie Case, Inez Case Gasser, Jerry Gasser, Lola and Telford Fleming. Uncle Dan Cole. Aunts Carol Yoder and Ada Yoder. Cousins Ty Smith and Jeff Yoder. Her fur-babies Skunner and Toy. And numerous other loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a scholarship fund established in Beth's honor: https://www.legacyhealthgiving.org/bethnorman
