Barry Joseph Thompson, age 74, of Roosevelt, passed away July 15, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer.
He was born September 16, 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Francis “Joe” Bernard and Laura June Williams Thompson.  He married Lola Evon Clark on July 10, 1970, in Las Vegas.
Barry grew up on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in his early years and moved to Utah in 1964, when his father was transferred with the BIA Land and Realty to Ft. Duchesne.  He graduated from Union High School where he spent those years playing on the various sports teams.  Sports, whether it was coaching or playing, was his favorite pastime.  He even enjoyed coaching sports he knew nothing about!  He was a staunch Nebraska Corn Husker’s football fan.
He worked for over 42 years in the oil field and did just about every job in that field.  When he wasn’t working or playing sports, he enjoyed fishing, and gambling – a passion he inherited from his parents, especially his mother.
Barry had a great love for his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he thoroughly enjoyed following to all of their sporting events.
Barry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evon, of Roosevelt; children, Troy (Renia) Thompson, Roosevelt; Trent (Dannie) Thompson, Talmage; Terri Chapoose, Roosevelt; Travis (Megan) Thompson, Loveland, Colorado; grandchildren, Andrea (Brandon) Reed; Samantha Thompson (Ethan Duncan); Samuel Willie; Bailey Willie; Zoee Thompson; Abigail Thompson; Taylor (Lane) Lisonbee; Cierra (Morgan) Carroll; Slaton (Keeley) Thompson; Gracie Turco; Sophia Robb; Raylan Thompson; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles “Chuck” (Edicia) Thompson, Aztec, New Mexico; a sister, Linda (Karl) Jacobs, Myton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracey Thompson; a sister, Kay Sixkiller, her husband, Walt Sixkiller; and his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023,  at 1:00 p.m. at the Roosevelt West Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  There will be a wake at his home on Thursday after 4:00 p.m.  There will be a viewing on Friday from 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in the Lapoint Cemetery.
