Barbara Suzanne Bullock Mathis, Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend returned to her Father in Heaven June 28, 2026 after a courageous battle of cancer. She lived a life of unwavering faith, devoted service, and unconditional love for her family. Her greatest desire was to follow Jesus Christ, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and faithful discipleship.

Barbara was born on March 18, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Katherine Alice Stolpe Bullock and Willard Arthur Bullock. She was raised on her family's farm in Granger, Utah, where she developed the values of hard work, service, sacrifice and love of family that would guide her throughout her life.

Barbara graduated from Granger High School in 1962 with straight A's. During her high school years, she served as student body secretary, played the drums in the school band, participated in cheerleading, and served as the school's drum majorette. One of her favorite memories was marching as a drum majorette in the Days of '47 Parade for seven consecutive years—an experience she treasured.

On September 2, 1965, Barbara married Rex Morrell Mathis of Price, Utah, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They both continued their education at Utah State University, where Barbara earned a degree in Home Economics. After graduation, Barbara and Morrell moved to Ogden, Utah, where she taught Home Living at Ogden High School. They later moved to Duchesne, Utah, where they raised their three children. Nothing brought Barbara greater joy than her family. She delighted in supporting her children, celebrating their accomplishments, and creating a home filled with faith, love, laughter and cherished traditions.

Barbara devoted 17 years to Utah State University Extension Service working with the 4-H program serving youth and families throughout the community. She found great fulfillment in teaching and encouraging others and strengthening the lives of those she served.

Barbara was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous ward and stake callings throughout her life. One of her greatest blessings was serving in the temple with her husband, an opportunity they both cherished. She also loved genealogy and family history work and loved to share faith promoting stories of her pioneer ancestors. Her testimony of Jesus Christ was steadfast, and her life reflected her deep faith and trust in Heavenly Father's plan.

Barbara loved nature and found joy in the beauty of God’s creations. She loved gardening and had a large garden every year but especially took delight in growing flowers. She always had a fresh bouquet from her garden in her home and shared the beauty with friends and family. She especially loved Montana and enjoyed the time spent with her family on the ranch. It was often the simple beauties of life that brought her the greatest happiness.

Barbara will be remembered for her fun loving personality, generous heart, tireless work ethic, and the genuine love she extended to everyone she met. Her legacy of faith in Jesus Christ, service, and devotion to family will continue to bless generations.

Her family finds peace in the promise of the Resurrection and the knowledge that families are eternal.

Barbara is survived by her husband of nearly 61 years, Rex Morrell Mathis; her three children: Rex B. (Tricia) Mathis; Suzanne (Rex) McMillan; and Julynne (John) Lane; 13 beloved grandchildren; Tyler Mathis; Katelyn Mathis ( Jordan) Cutler; Ashley Mathis ( Reese) Blacker; Becca Mathis (John) Nigliazzo; Wyatt Mathis; Dylan Mathis; Trent (Amanda) McMillan; Wade (Megan) McMillan; Shayla McMillan; Ryan McMillan; Jacob Lane; Benjamin Lane; Daniel Lane; and 8 treasured great-grandchildren, her brother, Willard (Joyce) Bullock; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Alice Stolpe Bullock and Willard Arthur Bullock, and her beloved sister, Beth Bullock Haderlie.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the LDS Peachwood Ward Meetinghouse on 3963 S. Peachwood Drive, West Valley City, Utah.
