Andrew Cornpeach

Andrew Cornpeach, age 42, of Vernal, Utah, passed away August 14, 2026, at the University of Utah Hospital after a longtime illness.

He was born September 23, 1983, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Raymond Joe Cornpeach and Brucie Lasal Reed.

Andrew was a proud Native American who valued his family, culture, hard work, and time spent outdoors. He shared 10 years with his fiancé, Maylaina Ridley, and above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his son.

Andrew was a hardworking and skilled crew boss in the oilfield. Throughout his career, he worked for Trujillo Construction, Deetz Construction, A1 Insulation, K&B Oilfield Services, and the Ute Tribe Recreation Department. He took great pride in his work and in the more than 100 oilfield batteries he helped build. He also learned the work of ranching, including branding and tagging cattle, fixing fences, and working on wheel lines.

Basketball was Andrew’s greatest pastime, but he also loved hunting, fishing, shed hunting, and walking the mountains whenever he had the chance. He was disciplined and active, faithfully starting his days at the gym at 5 a.m.

Andrew was also devoted to his Native traditions and was a Sun Dancer for 12 years, participating and singing. He will be remembered for his constant smile, his infectious laugh, his strong work ethic, and especially for the love he had for his family.

Andrew is survived by his fiancé, Maylaina Ridley, of Vernal; his children, Acy Rae Cornpeach (Miguel Bastida), Jacksonville, NC; Zaxxton Love Cornpeach, Vernal; step-mother, Jessica Cornpeach; grandmother, Patsy LaRose, Hilltop; siblings, Rachel Rae Cornpeach, Hilltop; Tashea Rose Cornpeach, Durrell Tapoof, both of Salt Lake City; Laura K Tapoof, Tooele; Willie Joe Tapoof, Salt Lake City; Nathaniel Cornpeach, Whiterocks; foster- parents, Robert and JoAnn Yazzie; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by son, Lucca Cornpeach; parents; his grandparents, Darrell LaRose, Merlin Cornpeach, and Marilyn Jim; and a sister, Phyllis Tapoof.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., at the Whiterocks Community Building. There will be a wake after 2:00 p.m. at the community building.

Burial will be in the Reed Cemetery in Farm Creek.
