Afton Mae Brighton

On Friday, November 22, 2019, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Afton Mae Bingham Brighton, age 93, passed away in Brigham City, Utah. She will be remembered for her keen wit, generosity, unconditional love, work ethic and her unwavering testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was born in her grandmother’s home in Randlett, Utah, on May 1, 1926, to Charles Perry Bingham and Mary Delila Harris Bingham.  She was the 9th of 11 children.  She graduated from Alterra High School and attended both Brigham Young University and College of Saint Mary-of-the-Wasatch in Salt Lake City.
On January 4, 1950, she married her eternal companion, Laurence Richard Brighton, in the Salt Lake Temple.  She and Laurence travelled to Salt Lake alone, over twenty inches of new snow.  There was no reception, no fanfare, yet they embarked that day on a wonderful life filled with love and laughter.  Laurence passed away in 2009.
While we were young, dad experienced some health problems.  This prompted our mother to return to college.  For eight years our mother balanced family, church and classes, graduating with a degree in elementary education. For eleven years she taught at Myton Elementary, where she became a beloved teacher, as well as being honored as the districts outstanding reading teacher.
Mother and dad served together as ordinance workers in the Provo and Vernal Temples, and as stake missionaries.
Mother filled our home with music, laughter and love.  She was a friend to everyone she met.  She radiated love and warmth to all.  She will be remembered always, and greatly missed.
Mother and dad had four children: Bruce, who passed away November 13, 2019, (Deanne) Roosevelt, Utah, and Gilbert, Arizona, Nancy (Don) Cooley, Nibley, Utah, Connie (Ace) Davis, Brigham City, Utah, and Dean (Christi) Brighton, Roosevelt, Utah.  She also leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, a brother, Frank Bingham (Pauline), a half-sister, Eula Casalina, a sister-in-law, Marilyn Wardle, a sister-in-law, Fran Brighton.
Funeral services will be held at Monday, December 2, 2019, at 11:00 am at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, Utah. There will be a viewing prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 am at the Mortuary.
Interment will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park on Tuesday,December 3, 2019, at 12:00 noon
