Owen Earl VanTassell, dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the age of 70 surrounded by his loving family.
Owen was born January 12, 1949 in Roosevelt to Earl H and Ina Thomas VanTassell.
Owen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to all. Owen married Marge Nell Marie LeJeune on December 3, 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple. Owen and Margie made their home in Tabiona from 1971 to 1998, after which, they made their home in Duchesne. Owen loved farming/ranching, hunting, fishing, singing and making new friends. It didn’t matter where Owen was, he loved meeting people and sharing his jokes.
Owen loved to serve his community. He served on the Mosquito Abatement board, UBMC hospital board, ASCS board, organized the Uintah Basin Cattleman group, served on the Duchesne County Cattleman’s board, and served as a ditch rider for several canals. If anyone had a question about water, Owen could answer their question; he knew water forwards and backwards.
Owen held numerous church callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; twenty-seven month mission to the Western States which included Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas, served in two Bishoprics, High Councilman, public relations for the Duchesne Stake, organized the annual Duchesne Stake Christmas sing, Ward mission leader, High Priest group leader and temple worker.
Owen was well know and will be remember for his hard working ethic, selfless love, singing talent and his fun and entertaining jokes.
He is survived by his wife, Margie VanTassell, children, Marc Owen (Lacie) VanTassell, Duchesne; Daniel Evan VanTassell, Tremonton; Chelise Ina (Jr.) Jessen, Altonah; 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, siblings, Myrl (Brent) Chugg, North Ogden; Kevin (Janice) VanTassell, Maeser; Jessup (Luci) VanTassell, Tabiona; sister-in-law, Gloria LeJeune Doucet, Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, David VanTassell; sister Claudia Chatwin, his parents, Earl H and Ina Thomas VanTassell, brother-in-law, Ron Chatwin, parents-in-law, Evan and Bertha LeJeune.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Duchesne Stake Center. Viewings will be held at the church on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m.
Burial in the Tabiona Cemetery.
