Joyce (Rigby) DennisAugust 12, 1928 ~ May 24, 2017 (age 88)
Joyce Rigby Dennis, 88, died Wednesday 24 May 2017 at her home in Alpine of causes incident to age.
She was born 12 August 1928 in Logan to Cora Archibald and Martin Amos Rigby. She had three younger siblings: Amos Darrell, LuAnne, and Coralie.
Joyce married Danniel Stewart Dennis in the Salt Lake LDS temple on 10 September 1947 and they were the parents of seven children. He died April 9, 2016.
Joyce was a beautiful baby with dainty features and shoulder length black hair when she was born. She grew up in Newton, Utah and attended schools in Newton, Smithfield and Richmond. She enjoyed school, and was a good student. The summer after she graduated from high school, she was working in the cafeteria at the Agricultural College in Logan, UT where she met the love of her life. After courting for a year, they married in September, just before Dan went to Colorado to continue school. In the early years of marriage, they lived in Ft. Collins, CO; Logan, UT; Burlington, VT; and Idaho Falls ID, before settling in Roosevelt in 1954.
Joyce came from a family who were second and third generation members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She acquired the same faith and testimony as her forebears. She has had a love of the gospel and a love of people always in her heart. Because of her charitable spirit, she often made dinner or a hot loaf of bread for neighbors or ward members, in addition to feeding her own large family. She worked long hours raising her children and working in their veterinary business. Even when at rest, her hands were always busy knitting or crocheting. She was always active in the Church and served in many callings with the youth as well as Relief Society. Joyce and Dan served a mission to San Bernardino, CA and they were temple ordinance workers in the Vernal, UT temple for many years. Joyce spent hours doing family history and served for over twenty years in the family history library.
Her husband, Dad, was gone frequently with his vet practice and community service, so she was the main influence in the home; a stabilizing rock of faith in raising her children, the definition of a help-meet to her husband. She loved music and encouraged each of her children to learn to play some instrument and to sing. She taught her children the value of work and dedication to life-long learning. She was a woman of great faith, strength, compassion, kindness and love.
She is survived by her children, Rosalie (Sherman) Young, LaDonne Loveday, Cynthia Knight, Mark (Ronda) Dennis, Blaine (Carolyn) Dennis, Deborah (David) Lind, Amelia (Michael) Cowan. Her posterity includes 36 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan, her parents, Cora and Amos; her brother Darrell; and three grandchildren, Chaleese Young, Celeste Loveday, and Mandi Lynn Dennis.
