Dorothy Marie Caldwell Luck, age 91, of LaPoint, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2017, at the Uintah Basin Senior Villa. She was loved by family and friends.
She was born October 4, 1925, in LaPoint, to Lawrence E. and Zina Thompson Caldwell. She attended school in LaPoint and graduated from Alterra High School in 1943. She married Lawrence Edward Luck on April 1, 1945, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died August 3, 1971.
Dorothy served in many callings as a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and completed two missions: to Little Rock, Arkansas, and at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. She also loved her service as an ordinance worker in the Vernal LDS Temple.
Dorothy had a beautiful voice and sang at many church and community functions, wedding receptions, and funerals. She greatly enjoyed performing songs & poetry with the “Saddle Sages”.
She was elected as the Uintah County Clerk, was Vice-President of Mosby Irrigation, President of the Uintah Cattlemen’s Association, and was voted Woman of the Year by the Vernal Business & Professional Women’s Club. One of the highlights of her life was winning the Bullberry Boys 137 mile endurance horse race in 1958.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Lance (Maurine) Luck, Neola; Shane (Lorinda) Luck, Show Low, AZ; Rob Luck, San Diego; Lori (Erik) Johnson, Tremonton; brother Craig Caldwell. She was “Grama D” to 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lawrence, and her brothers Blaine & Vince “Buddy” Caldwell.
The family would like to thank the kind staff at The Villa for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the LaPoint LDS Chapel where a viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m.
